Translate the menu
The menu in English, dish by dish: what you translate shows on the English menu, and anything else shows as you wrote it.
Every menu can be read in English: under /en, customers see the names and descriptions you translated. Anything you don't translate shows as you wrote it. Prices, photos and what is sold out don't change.
Who can: everyone sees it. The owner, the admins and anyone with a custom role that has "Product catalog: Edit" translate.
Translate a menu
- In Menu, open the menu and tap Translate.
- You'll see English translation: every category, product, option group and option on the menu, with what you wrote in Spanish beside it.
- In each row, write the Name in English and, for categories and products, the Description in English. Left empty, the description in Spanish shows.
- Tap Save on that row. It shows on the English menu as soon as you save it.
Each row is saved on its own: what you typed in the other rows stays. Remove deletes that row's translation, and it shows in Spanish again.
A product on several menus is translated once: the translation shows on all of them. The location's cuisine translates itself, and its tags are translated in Settings.
With an assistant
A connected assistant (Claude or ChatGPT) can translate the whole menu at once, if you allowed it Translate the menu into another language (its text only) when you connected it. What it writes shows at once and appears here as Automatic translation: check it with Automatic and save it to make it yours. What the team already translated it leaves alone, unless you ask.
What each row says
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not translated | It shows in Spanish. |
| Translated | Someone on the team wrote it, and it shows. |
| Automatic translation | A machine wrote it. It already shows; once you save it, even unchanged, it's yours. |
| Outdated | The Spanish name or description changed after it was translated. It doesn't show, so as not to describe what the dish no longer is: check it and save it. |
At the top, Not translated, Outdated and Automatic show only those rows; All shows every one.
Orders
An order placed in English keeps the names as the customer read them: that's how they see them on their order, their receipt and Mercado Pago. On the counter, the kitchen and the summary, orders always show the Spanish names.
What each message means
| Message | What happened and what to do |
|---|---|
| Enter the name. | The name in English can't be empty. |
| Enter a name of up to 120 characters. | The name is too long: shorten it. |
| Check the details and try again. | The description is too long, or the row changed: reload the page. |
