# Recommended hardware

> What to buy to run Restoman at your venue: the counter's computer and printer, the kitchen's tablet and the tables' QR holders.

Restoman runs in the browser, so you don't need special equipment. This is what we tested or recommend for each station. Restoman doesn't sell hardware: buy it wherever you like.

## The counter

- **A computer with Windows and Chrome.** A simple laptop is enough (for example, a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3), and its battery rides out short power cuts. A mini PC with a monitor works too, ideally with a UPS. The counter prints with Chrome opened with `--kiosk-printing` ([The counter](https://docs.restoman.com.ar/en/guia/mostrador.md)).
- **An 80 mm thermal printer with Ethernet and USB**, with an auto-cutter: the **Epson TM-T20III** (the one Bibi's uses). With Ethernet the printer can sit away from the computer. Install Epson's driver for your system.
- **80 mm thermal rolls.** Always keep a spare box.

Before you buy, keep in mind:

- **Mac:** Epson's Mac driver lists up to macOS 15. If the counter is a Mac on a newer version, test the printer before relying on it every day.
- **Chromebook or Chromebox:** they don't work for the counter, because ChromeOS can't open Chrome with `--kiosk-printing`.
- **Cash drawer:** for now we don't recommend one connected to the printer: it would open with every ticket.

## The kitchen

- **A 10 or 11 inch tablet** for the [Kitchen](https://docs.restoman.com.ar/en/guia/cocina.md) screen. It's designed for an iPad, and an Android one such as the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 works just as well with Chrome.
- **A wall mount** near a socket and away from steam and the griddle: the tablet stays plugged in all shift.

You don't need a printer in the kitchen: the ticket prints at the counter and the kitchen sees the orders on the tablet.

## The tables

The [Tables and QR](https://docs.restoman.com.ar/en/guia/mesas.md) sheet has six QR codes per A4 page. To make them last:

1. Print it on self-adhesive vinyl or thick card.
2. Laminate each card.
3. Put it in a 10 × 15 cm (A6) acrylic menu holder: the card fits with room to spare.

## The connection

Connect the counter's computer and printer to the router **by cable**, not Wi-Fi. Tablets can use Wi-Fi. If the connection drops, the counter says so and comes back by itself when the internet does.
